This time, it will inevitably fall somewhere between 2024’s overt opulence and the subtle sophistication of 2023. In the coming months, fashion will see a return to the classics, which will act as a through-line for 2025 fashion trends. 

Timeless favorites will be pushed to the forefront once more, with no-fuss workwear, such as posh suiting in professional shades of charcoal, getting the high-fashion touch. Classic motifs, like stripes and animal print, will also act as overarching themes of the year, spanning across every sector of the industry. In the accessory category, jumbo-sized handbags will excel, bringing fashion back to its more functional roots.  

Upcoming color trends, too, are timeless favorites. Sumptuous mocha brown will bring richness to all categories, making even the most minimalist designs feel posh. Pastels are also set to make a comeback, but with styling that makes the age-old favorite feel fresh and modern.

Animal Print

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from 2024’s leopard takeover, it’s that shoppers simply cannot get enough of animal print—and everyone is cashing in, from Valentino and Luar to more attainable brands, like COS. Recent releases highlight underrated animal-inspired motifs, such as tiger and cow print. Rihanna is a fan of the latter, while Katie Holmes has been seen sporting tiger stripes. As always, the rest of us will soon follow in their footsteps. 

A Shot of Espresso

When Sabrina Carpenter said “That’s that me, espresso,” she couldn’t have known how massive the impact would be. Brands like Tory Burch, Michael Kors, and Bottega Veneta considered the lyric a marching order, quickly releasing coffee-colored collections for 2025. 

With high saturation and warm undertones, this rich hue gives off an undeniable air of lavishness that makes even the most no-fuss designs feel elevated. Dark brown is also a great neutral base for color mixing. Style it with trending fellows, like butter yellow or crimson for easy color blocking.

Posh and Professional

Fashion is going full-on boss mode. Staples like fitted vests and wide-leg trousers have been trending for the past year and in 2025, professionalism will hit the industry in full force. Statement blazers and skirt suits will dominate the clothing space, while glove pumps and loafers are set to be the year’s hottest accessories. Even color trends will be impacted by this fashion merger, as corporate gray and luscious burgundy continue to take hold. 

Classic Stripes

Between the rise of lady jackets and streetwear’s rugby shirt infatuation, stripes are poised to have quite the year, indeed. With help from designers like Rabanne, Max Mara, and Proenza Schouler, as well as Gigi Hadid’s cashmere brand Guest In Residence, the classic print is coming back stronger than ever. 

Its newfound popularity is a happy side effect of fashion’s overarching return to the classics. As such, the nautical print can be styled effortlessly with trench coats, loafers, and blue jeans.

Big, Big Bags

Back in 2005, the biggest indicator of excessive wealth was carrying a massive Louis Vuitton tote bag on your arm. Two decades later, the same rule is being applied to every brand in the industry. 

Officially abandoning micro bags, designers are now launching purses 10 times the size. The Row, Tory Burch, Michael Kors, and Coach—the original purveyors of jumbo-sized handbags—are all showing new versions. Meanwhile, brands like Sandy Liang, who have historically been Team Tiny Bag, are pumping out outsized styles of their own.

Loose-Fit Jeans

The dreaded skinny jeans have been threatening to make a comeback for months and as a result, designers are creating baggier styles than ever. This year’s denim trends are promising to be the loosest in history, providing an antidote to the skin-tight silhouettes of yore. The volume will reach never-before-seen proportions in the coming months, thanks to exaggerated cuts, like barrel jeans and wide-leg (a roll-over trend from winter 2024).

Cotton Candy Dream

Last year’s butter-yellow craze set the stage for a new wave of pastels. The next 12 months will see a rainbow of pale hues, from delicate pink to sky blue and the lightest sage. Color-loving labels, like Sandy Liang and Brandon Maxwell, will continue releasing light-washed hues, of course, but they’ll also be joined by traditionally edgier brands, such as Rabanne. 

Though pastels tend to come back each year like clockwork, today’s styling gives the girly-girl color palette a much cooler feel. Runways are showing monochromatic ensembles, as well as layered hues in contrasting colors. Both are easy ways to make your outfit feel fresh.
