She injected a little sex appeal into the floor-grazing style.
Zoe Saldaña has proven that she can pull off just about everything—including chain mail crop tops—but her latest look showed once and for all that she never shies away from a surprising take on a trend. At today’s Emilia Pérez photocall in London, the actress wore a full Saint Laurent look that included a supple, leather Saharienne jacket with a long, pleated skirt that had an unexpected sheer panel across her legs. The look featured a rainbow of autumnal colors, including a rich brown for the tiered skirt and a cozy-looking caramel for her jacket.
Saldaña kept things casual with her hair pulled back and a cool-girl red lip color. She pushed up her sleeves and finished the look with patent leather Saint Laurent platforms and gold jewelry. She was joined by her co-stars, including Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz, and Karla Sofia Gascon. Netflix describes the film as a “musical story of rebirth” and “an opera that’s not an opera.”
If that sounds a little complicated, that's by design. The streamer offered a more straightforward description, as well: "Emilia Pérez tells the story of high-powered lawyer Rita (Zoe Saldaña) who takes on an unexpected assignment: helping a Mexican cartel leader (Gascón) fake their death and undergo sex-reassignment operations."
However, Saldaña told Tudum that the film’s complexities and message are part of the appeal.
“Rita wishes that she would just have this one opportunity, just any opportunity that will make her break out and break this glass ceiling that she finds herself never being able to shatter,” Saldaña shared. “And when the opportunity presents itself, she doesn’t think twice. She just takes it.”
The film premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival and is scheduled to arrive on Netflix in November.
