They’re going to be everywhere this spring.
I’m experiencing jeans fatigue. After 27 years of wearing the rigid denim, I’ve found myself in need of a little break, and there’s one style I’m eyeing to replace them with—it seems celebrities are doing the same.
At one point, trousers were something I wouldn’t have dreamed of wearing anywhere but the office (and even there, I was reluctant). But in the past few years, the style has gotten some cool tweaks—namely, super wide legs—and stars, including Kate Middleton and Katie Holmes, can’t stop reaching for the reach pants.
Madewell the Harlow Super Wide-Leg Trousers
$128 $70 at Madewell.com
The roomy leg has made the once-stuffy style way more wearable, giving the trousers a more laid-back, cool-girl feel—which is why they’re the perfect replacement for jeans. The pants, as Lady Gaga proved, work with something as simple as a T-shirt, but can also look uber chic when dressed up with a matching top and heels a lá Hailey Bieber and Sofía Vergara. Dare I call the style more versatile than jeans? Below, shop wide-leg trousers, the style every wardrobe needs for spring, starting at $31.

Btfbm High-Waist Trousers
$39 $31 at Amazon
To try this trend for less, you’ll want to grab these $31 trousers from Amazon. The style is available in sizes Small through XX-Large, as well as 16 colorways. While that variety and the low price point are what make these a must-have, the elastic at the back of the waistband is a nice bonus.
Banana Republic Pull-On Wide-Leg Silk Pants
$180 $140 at Gap.com
If your priority is comfort, consider this pull-on style from Banana Republic. The wide pants are made from 100-percent silk and feature an elastic waistband; it’s rich-looking and really comfy. That duality has made them a shopper-favorite, with fans calling them “perfect” for everything from “a levelled-up casual look” to a dressed-up “evening out.”
J.Crew Wide-Leg Ponte Pants
$90 $70 at J. Crew
Another comfy-chic pick is J.Crew’s new wide-leg ponte pants. This style is stretchy and moderately supportive, with the brand noting that the pants offer a little hold. They’re also quite elegant. Rather than being loose all-over, this pair has a more polished fit; they’re slim at the top and slowly get wider as you go down the leg. They also feature pintuck details at both the front and back of the legs.
This spring, I’ll be relying less heavily on jeans, and it’s thanks to comfy-cool wide-leg trousers. Shop more of the star-worn style, below.
