Plus, other street style trends we're spotting.
Every February, the streets of New York get a little more well-dressed as Fashion Week festivities descend on the city. Fashion month kicks off in New York, where American designers preview their fall/winter collections. (Next comes London, Milan, and then Paris.) Presentations officially began on Thursday, February 6, with shows like Brandon Maxwell, Christian Siriano, and Collina Strada, and the street style is already ripe with outfit inspiration. Snowfall on Thursday morning made dressing more complicated, but New Yorkers made do, taking the opportunity to show off their vast and varied coat collections.
Unlike the sea of black jackets that fill the trains this time of year, the sidewalks outside this week's shows were full of bold colors and contrasting prints. Both outerwear and accessories came in bright, saturated shades like cherry red and cobalt blue. There was a matching element at play, with many people choosing winter accessories in the same shade and fabric as the rest of their outfits. Hats were also on the menu, with one of Jackie O's favorites seemingly poised to make a comeback.

Animal Prints
With the indie sleaze revival, it was only a matter of time before cheetah print became a trend again (though it never really left). A cheetah-print coat is a timeless piece that adds undeniable glamour to any look. This week, a slightly less expected animal print started taking hold: zebra. With curved, black-and-white (or any color) stripes, the streamlined pattern makes a compelling case for animal prints as neutrals.
Pinstripe
TikTok has been trying to make the mob wife aesthetic happen, but maybe it’s the mob bosses themselves that offer outfit inspiration. Pinstripe pants seem set to become the next iteration of the trouser and vest trend that’s dominated the last few seasons. The polished pattern adds a bit more interest but is still streamlined and neutral.
Bold Monochrome
Winter dressing can be drab, but the bold monochromatic looks at New York Fashion week proved that it doesn't have to be. Plenty of guests eschewed black puffers for bright colored coats and scarves in the exact shade as the rest of their outfit, proving that monochromatic doesn't have to mean minimalistic.
Pill Box Hats
Jackie Kennedy's favorite accessory first appeared on runways last spring, and a year later, it has officially hit the streets. The pillbox hat adds sleek structure to any look. Because it's so small, it's a great place to play with pattern and texture.
