She paid homage to one of the late princess's favorite designers.
Elizabeth Debicki fittingly channeled one of Princess Diana’s most iconic style moments as she won her first Emmy on Sunday, September 15. The Australian actress drew comparisons to the late royal as she stepped out on the Emmy Awards red carpet in a square-neck black velvet dress from Dior’s Cruise 2025 collection.
The Crown actress, who won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the 2024 Emmy Awards, put her own spin on the black Jacques Azagury gown that Princess Di wore to London’s Bridgewater House for a cancer research gala. The princess memorably paired her LBD with pearl drop earrings and a beautiful pearl and sapphire choker—a statement jewelry piece that she later paired with her black velvet revenge dress.
In addition to being a creation from one of Di’s favorite designers, Debicki’s velvet Dior gown also featured a similar neckline, thick straps, and a full skirt. While she left her throat bare, she added some royal glam with De Beers jewelry—including a delicate diamond fan necklace, a diamond ring, and delicate drop earrings—and a black leather Vacheron Constantin watch. The actress completed her regal ensemble with an unexpected street-style staple: A pair of Aldo shoes. Meanwhile, a sleek blonde updo, soft rose blush, and petal pink lips added a touch of color to her otherwise monochromatic look.
Debicki was nominated for her first Emmy award last year for her portrayal of the Princess of Wales in The Crown’s final two seasons, and she called playing the late royal a “gift” as she accepted her award on Sunday night.
"Playing this part based on this unparalleled, incredible human being has been my great privilege,” she told the crowd. “It has been a gift. Thank you so much."
