Way more than just a dress.
Vice President Kamala Harris swapped her signature neutral suiting for a gown that made a statement in more ways than one at last night’s Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 2024 Phoenix Awards dinner in Washington, D.C.
On Saturday, Harris, the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, stepped out in what arguably might be her best campaign look to date. Repping Black excellence at the event with not just her words, but also her dress, Harris wore a black sequined gown with long sleeves and a rounded asymmetrical neckline by budding African American designer LaQuan Smith. She accessorized minimally, adding just a pair of black patent-leather heels and diamond stud earrings to her formal look.
Her brunette hair was styled in bouncy curls with a side part, while her glam consisted of dark nude lipgloss and black eyeliner.
Walking onto the stage to Beyoncé’s “Freedom,” Harris highlighted the importance of the caucus for winning the election this November. “The Congressional Black Caucus has served as the conscience of the Congress and of our nation, and as a proud former CBC member, I know first-hand America relies on the leaders in this room, not only for a conscience, but for a vision,” she said.
“Now the baton is in our hands. I truly believe that America is ready to turn the page on the politics of division and hate, and to do it, our nation is counting on the leadership in this room.” She concluded her remarks by adding: “We know what we stand for, and that’s why we know what we fight for. And when the CBC fights, we win."
