Gomez and her castmates took home a prestigious French award for their work in 'Emilia Perez'.
Selena Gomez certainly knows how to dress for every occasion—and last night was no exception. The Only Murders in the Building actress stepped out in France to receive a prestigious French award (a literal medal!) for her work in the upcoming Emilia Perez, which was was given at Villa Albertine, the French Institute for Culture and Education in New York.
Gomez opted for a classic, sophisticated ensemble for the outing. She donned a chic black blazer dress with a deep, plunging neckline and a double breasted design. She wore a pair of sheer black tights and black pumps, keeping the look simple and timeless. She wore her hair down and straight. She accessorized with gold earrings and a statement ring. Her all-black look showed off her very impressive green and gold medal, which offered the only pop of color.
Gomez, along with her co-stars in the upcoming film Emilia Perez, were receiving the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, an honor bestowed by the French government to those who have made a “significant contribution to the enrichment of the French cultural inheritance.”
Gomez later shared a grinning selfie with her new medal on Instagram, writing, “Thank you @mbouabdallah_ for honoring my cast with the Chevalier dans l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres tonight at @villa.albertine for Emilia Perez! 🇫🇷”
In the film, which is a Spanish-language French production from director Jacques Audiard, Gomez plays Jessi, the wife of a trans woman, Emilia (Karla Sofía Gascón), who is also the leader of a Mexican drug cartel. The role offered numerous challenges for Gomez. For one thing, it was her first Spanish role. “Scariest thing was speaking in Spanish, for sure,” she said to Vanity Fair. “I don’t think I doubt my performance necessarily, but yeah, I definitely wish I could’ve done that a bit more defined.”
The film has already received plenty of critical acclaim and its four leading ladies—Gomez and Gascón, along with Zoë Saldaña and Adriana Paz—have already taken home the Cannes Best Actress award for their work.
