Hint: It’s not your basic bag.
Over the past few years, I—as well as every other Gen Z’er—have become completely obsessed with Coach’s elevated but cool (and not totally overpriced) bags. The viral Tabby was the first to win me over, but now it’s the Bella Hadid-worn slouchy Brooklyn tote that I can’t stop thinking about. And after tuning into the brand’s spring 2025 show at NYFW, I’m convinced the next ‘It’ bag isn’t necessarily a specific style—though the collection doubled-down on the “the bigger the better” trend we’re seeing—but a color.
Oxblood bags were in heavy rotation on the runway, from a sweet shoulder bag with a kiss closure to a giant, pouch-like tote that, IMO, stole the show. And while the deep, burgundy color might have been featured as part of the spring presentation, it’s a shade that’s perfect for fall. It has the richness you want from an autumnal hue, but isn’t quite as basic as a classic brown or black.
I’m patiently waiting for Coach’s new collection to drop, but in the meantime, I wanted to see what I could grab in that trending color right now, and immediately discovered that some of the the brand’s best-sellers are available in the fall-perfect shade (though I also found that many are already sold out). So in addition to three Coach styles, I found seven other burgundy bags to help you shop the fall trend.

Coach Brooklyn Shoulder Bag 39
$495 at Coach.com
The Brooklyn tote has recently become the internet’s most-coveted bag. Its relaxed, oversized silhouette radiates effortless cool-girl energy, and grabbing it in this bark ruby shade checks off two of fall’s biggest bag trends at once. Plus, this bag is kind of perfect for everything: it easily holds a laptop (coolest work tote ever?) and pairs high-end leather with everyday slouchiness, allowing it to easily dress up and down.
Coach Tabby Shoulder Bag 26
$450 at Coach.com
If the Brooklyn bag is for the cool girl, the Tabby shoulder bag is for the chic girl. This iconic Coach style—which is loved by more than 400 shoppers—features a more structured silhouette and gold hardware, both of which give the leather bag a really luxurious feel. But beyond looking good, the Tabby is also practical. The style includes both a crossbody and shoulder strap as well as multiple built-in compartments.
Madewell the Essential Curve Shoulder Bag
$198 at Madewell.com
Madewell will always be one of my go-tos for high-quality, affordable leather purses, and the Essential Curve bag is one of my favorites from its newest collection. I adore the adjustable gold buckle, subtle slouchiness, as well as the crescent shape, which can instantly make a basic outfit more interesting. As one fan of the style put it, this bag is “low-key” but still “eye-catching.”
JW Pei Sharon Crossbody Bag
$89 at Amazon
Celebrities and fashion editors alike swear by JW Pei for affordable, on-trend bags, and the Sharon crossbody in Claret is great if you’re wanting to shop the fall color for less. Yes, this might be another burgundy crescent bag, but I’d argue it’s very different from Madewell’s. While the Essential Curve leaned relaxed and effortless, this one is more streamlined and sleek. Plus, it’s much smaller, making it great for nights out or days when you don’t want to carry a ton.
Coach’s NYFW show convinced me that oxblood and burgundy bags are going to be everywhere this season. Shop more of my favorite styles below.
