It's wickedly good!
Like so many people who work in fashion, wearing all-black is my uniform. But I have to admit that, from time to time, the schtick gets boring. After all, how much can we ever make all-black feel fresh? Turns out, all I needed to elevate my uniform this holiday season was a pair of leather pants.
At least, that’s the memo coming from Cynthia Erivo’s latest street style look. The Wicked actress was spotted in New York City wearing a black sweater layered over a matching turtleneck, styled with a pair of straight leg leather pants. She topped off her Elphaba-approved look with a pair of green platforms and a black hat.
Sure, I get why a pair of leather pants may seem intimidating. But if Erivo’s look is any indication, all you need to tone down leather pants for a daytime outing is a chunky sweater, like the one pictured above from Louis Vuitton. It’s one of those high-low combinations that truly make an outfit more interesting, taking an otherwise casual sweater into dressed-up territory and vice versa.

With the holiday season around the corner, Erivo’s leather pants look proves just how versatile this piece can be. Take a cue from her and style the sweater-leather pants combo with platforms for a more laid-back take on winter party dressing. It can be easily transformed for a casual daytime outing with a pair of sneakers or loafers.
It’s a wickedly good holiday season uniform to fall back on when the sea of sequins, glitter, and tulle typical of the party circuit seems too overwhelming. I know I will.
