Denim season is almost here.
Cool-girl Katie Holmes is back at it again.
The actress, who’s never not spotted out and about in New York City, delivered yet another stellar, easygoing, though exceptionally cool look that’s penciled into my memory for the foreseeable future. It’s simple, which is what she does best, but it has elements to it that you simply can’t not praise—like those jeans, which are going to be the only jeans I wear when denim season comes around.
Holmes was on a leisurely stroll through the Big Apple wearing an unfussy look; prior to heading out the door, the actress grabbed a simple gray, crewneck tee, a white cardigan that she buttoned up, black leather ballet flats, and last but certainly not least, baggy, carpenter-meets-cargo jeans that have a utilitarian flare I simply can’t get over.

I haven’t thought about wearing jeans in quite some time because it’s just too hot to want to wear anything, let alone denim, which has a reputation for being pretty stuffy. But as the summer flies by (I know!!) and fall gets closer, I’m getting eager to refresh my jean collection. Up until now, I was eager to add barrel-leg styles, a few baggier options, and some crisp white picks into my assortment—but now, I’m eyeing Holmes’s baggy, cargo-inspired version for a cool-girl approach this fall. They look comfy and obviously cool (I know I’ve used that word a lot!), but finding pants that check these two boxes isn’t always easy.
What’s more, I love how the actress styled the more masculine-leaning bottoms with feminine essentials, like a cardigan and glove-like ballet flats to give the hard-edge jeans some balance. I plan on wearing my cargo jeans with frilly, peplum style tops for a juxtaposed ensemble all fall long.
