Party on the top, gym class on the bottom.
Emily Ratajkowski knows a little something about incorporating major skin into her red carpets, serving up a mix of iconic barely-there fashion looks and plunging styles over the years. And on December 10, the model appeared to pay homage to what she’s called the “most controversial dress” she’s ever worn–a.k.a. the black cut-out Julien Macdonald sequin dress that caused a stir at the 2016 Harper’s Bazaar Icons Party–for her latest appearance. This time, Ratajkowski’s belly button-skimming little black dress showcased a polarizing Y2K trend as she effortlessly transitioned the look into a cool girl style moment.
Ratajkowski combined partywear and athleisure into one outfit as she attended the PUMA Speedcat Launch Celebration on Tuesday night. EmRata’s ultra-plunging black dress–a halter-neck mini that dove all the way down to her lower midriff and featured bare sides and a backless design–looked similar to her Macdonald gown, thanks to a near-identical neckline and cutouts. However, the My Body author’s dress had subtle nods to the evening’s theme with a sporty jersey material and even sportier accompaniments.
EmRata took inspiration from the Noughties for the outing, leaning into the polarizing dress-over-pants combination once favored by the likes of Ashley Tisdale and Paris Hilton. She wore a pair of black flared athletic pants under her dress and added a more neutral version of her go-to sneakers. While Ratajkowski’s bright Puma Speedcat Sneakers are on regular rotation, she showed off a black-and-white color scape during Tuesday’s event.
Wearing a trendy black choker necklace with a large silver flower pendant around her neck, the model kept her beauty look sultry with her signature mocha mousse glossy pout, a swipe of liquid black eyeliner, and effortless waves. As she left the event, Ratajkowski warmed up with The Matrix-coded outerwear, donning a plunging black leather trench coat that looked like it was copped from Trinity’s closet.
