A hair-raising look, indeed.
Cate Blanchett has never been one to be afraid to take a fashion risk. Wearing a pearl necklace off-the-shoulder rather than around her neck? She’s been there, done that. What about a halter top constructed from 102 actual silver spoons? Check. And a blazer that recycled said spoons? Check, check.
But her look for the premiere of her new movie Rumors at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall during the New York Film Festival on Saturday might just be her boldest one yet. For the occasion, Blanchett wore a shirt with padded shoulders and a fringed hem made completely out of bright blonde hair extensions. The color of the top expertly matched Blanchett's real hair, which was styled in a sleek bob with a middle part.
She paired her hair-raising shirt with a chunky gold chain necklace, black pointed-toe heels, and her favorite black leather pants. Blanchett has been seen in those exact trousers on several occasions, including most recently at the 2024 Albie Awards two days earlier.
The actress attended the award ceremony alongside her 22-year-old son, Dashiell, and wore her go-to pants with a black sequined caped top from Louis Vuitton that featured gold buttons on the shoulder and a draped asymmetrical silhouette. She accessorized with a black boxy clutch and a gold pinky ring.
Meanwhile, Dashiell opted for a more traditional take on black tie with a dark double-breasted blazer with pleated wide-leg trousers and a silk tie to match.
