Broadcasting on Sep. 19 at 4 p.m. CEST, the online event will examine the rapidly expanding space over 60 minutes.
Beauty supplement experts
Beauty, health and wellness expert Olivia Houghton, deputy creative foresight editor at The Future Laboratory, will kick off the session with an industry overview, including emerging trends and how businesses can use foresight to stay relevant and grow in a fast-paced environment.
An expert panel discussion will follow this presentation, examining how innovations are reshaping beauty routines and exploring emerging opportunities in the space.
Sophie Medlin, chair for the British Dietetic Association for London, will bring her expertise both as a dietitian and as a supplement formulator, most recently for the skin-care routine brand You’re Looking Well.
The founders launched the brand in November 2023 after identifying a niche for a comprehensive skincare regime and focused research on the gut-skin axis, introducing a kit that includes a Day Cream, Day Pill, Night Cream and Night Pill.
The supplements are designed to work in harmony to create a glow from the inside out, created to optimize the gut microbiome and work in synergy with the creams.
Lucy Goff, founder of skincare brand Lyma will also join the panel. She launched her company to design a supplement entirely from the customer’s point of view, alongside the Lyma Laser, which offers clinic-grade home skin regeneration and an epigenetic topical serum.
The supplement fulfills consumer demand for a holistic overview of health, targeting five areas of well-being: Sleep support, improved immunity, enhanced mental clarity and focus, reduced stress and anxiety and improved skin, hair and nails.
Nutritionist Melissa Snover, CEO and founder of the personalized gummy brand Nourished will complete the panel.
Snover’s brand and skin health company recently collaborated with Neutrogena to offer skin care supplements using AI technology to cater to specific needs.
The technology suggests a specific blend of nutrients designed to improve the skin’s quality and meet the consumer’s skincare goals, with made-to-order 3D printed gummies comprising seven layers, each corresponding to a different skincare need.
Growing areas
The panelists will discuss growing areas of interest and upcoming trends.
One such trend is sun protection, which has attracted increasing interest in popularity in recent years as consumers have realized the huge anti-aging benefits.
As studies emerge on the effect of blue light on skin, protection against both environmental and electronic pollution has become key for formulations, and brands are beginning to explore the opportunities that ingestibles can offer against UV protection.
French brand Jaldes designed the Oxelio Protect supplement to protect fair skin from UV damage. It contains tomato carotenoids lycopene and beta-carotene to protect skin against the sun’s rays, which contribute to its premature aging. The product also contains zinc, selenium and vitamins C and E to help protect cells against oxidative stress triggered by sun exposure.
And the Spanish Cantabria Labs’ sun protection brand Heliocare has launched an oral supplement designed to “offer an internal line of defense against harmful UV radiation.” The product is formulated to offer free-radical defense and aims to defend skin cells from damage caused by the sun and protect skin cell DNA.
Another trend that seems to be here to stay is scalp care, as brands are placing greater emphasis on incorporating ingredients that promote a nourished scalp.
UK hair brand Glowwa launched its inaugural Hair Food as an all-in-one supplement to support hair growth and reduce shedding. It includes biotin, B12, folic acid, zinc, lysine, MSM, niacin, B5, B6, vitamin C and coconut water.
Similarly, Australian wellness brand Vida Glow’s once-daily Hairology Capsules are designed to reduce hair thinning, formulated with ingredients found to reduce hair loss, brown seaweed extract to support healthy thyroid hormones to help control the growth of healthy hair follicles, and zinc, selenium and biotin.
And UK-based Viviscal has launched Scalp Nourish, designed to support a healthy scalp with hyaluronic acid, biotin and antioxidants to fortify root follicles. All Viviscal products also include the marine protein complex AminoMar C, which has been found to help new cell growth.
Trending ingredients
Panelists will also discuss trending ingredients, and hero ingredient collagen certainly remains central in the beauty-from-within sector.
Recent data from Centric Market Intelligence found that collagen is leading in ingredient searches throughout the UK, and it was found that collagen powder is seeing a 51% year-on-year increase in searches.
Consumers have shown a slightly slower growth in interest for capsules and tablets, but there has still been a 20% rise in searches.
Now, collagen is beginning to appear in more diverse format options, in particular, protein beauty bars, with brands such as VeCollal launching a white label ‘high protein beauty bar’ concept which includes its vegan collagen.
Other leading ingredients are appealing to consumers interested in the mind-body connection, as more brands begin to focus on indirect action for beauty.
According to Mintel data, 89% of adults are “actively seeking ways to reduce stress”, informing how brands focusing on neurocosmetics that target the mind-skin connection are gaining traction.
Skincare brand Dr. Barbra Sturm’s designed the Good Night supplement to have calming effects and to contribute to the normal, healthy functioning of the nervous system, for the purpose of “enhancing the quality of your beauty sleep.”
Ingestable beauty company Rejuvenated has H3O Night Repair, containing antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, vitamins andionic minerals designed to strengthen and hydrate skin during sleep. It aims to work in synergy with circadian rhythm.
And online retailer Beauty Pie launched its botanical and nutrient formulation with ingredients such as ashwagandha, ginseng and vitamin B5 to support people with busy lives.
