Wake up, Katy Cats, a new music video just dropped.
Newly-minted Video Vanguard Award-winning Katy Perry has plenty to celebrate at the moment. Yes, she took home the gold Moon Person for her Video Vanguard honor, but she also snagged Most Iconic VMAs Moment this week, too, in addition to dropping her new single with Doechii, “I’m His, He’s Mine,” which is on her upcoming album, 143. Naturally, the song came with an accompanying video when it dropped today, and in true Katy Perry fashion, the clip is full of iconic fashion and barely-there camp-tastic outfits.
Perry and Doechii previewed the clip at this year's MTV Video Music Awards and the full video includes some of the steamy innuendo that the performance offered up.
According to Billboard, the song samples Crystal Waters’s “Gypsy Woman” and includes lyrics like “I’m his queen, I’m his freak, I’m every woman he wants and needs” and “I’m his main, I’m his side, I’m every woman that’s in his mind.”
In one part of the music video, Perry wore a head-scratching combo of a silver inflatable thong and a strappy black body harness—she just fell from the sky, so it could be a super-sexy take on skydiving gear. The look also included some sci-fi details, like a puffy chrome heart, and included animal-print boots, mashing up everything from futurism to high glam. It's all in a day's work for Perry, who has given us iconic looks like a beer-can bra and Met Gala hamburger.
After accepting her Video Vanguard Award, Perry took the time to reflect on her career, saying, “There are so many things that have to align to have a long and successful career as an artist. There are no decade-long accidents.”
She also took a moment to give a heartfelt message to her fans, thanking “KatyCats who’ve stood by me for a lifetime” and the LGBTQ+ community, saying, “who I recognize I would not be here without, and who show me that you can be both kind and c–t.”
