Looks like there's no bad blood here.
Just hours after serving revenge dressing on the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet in a yellow-and-black corset that appeared to be a mine of Reputation (TV) Easter eggs, Taylor Swift made a surprise outfit change halfway through the show. The “Fortnight” singer—who’s the most-nominated artist of the evening with 12 potential awards up for grabs—leaned into intergalactic vibes as she switched out her sultry plaids for a Monse design that was out of this world. Swift’s second VMAs outfit literally depicted a scene of aliens leaving a UFO, seemingly referencing Katy Perry’s Video Vanguard performance just moments earlier.
Shortly after the “Dark Horse” singer performed a catalog of her greatest hits, Swift seemed to show there’s no blood between the pair as she changed into the sparkly purple and silver minidress. Her outfit featured a square neckline, thick straps with buckle detailing, and an E.T.-approved scene of an alien invasion depicted on front—which appeared to be a nod to Perry’s song “E.T."
Swift, who could be seen dancing in the stands, paired her iridescent mini with thigh-high black boots and ditched her plaid choker from earlier. Instead, the star seemed to keep her original VMAs beauty look, styling her blonde hair in a voluminous blowout with a deep side part and enhancing her features with her signature red lip and a smoky eye.
Perry confirmed that she and Swift had mended their friendship in June 2019 with a celebratory social media post. She memorably shared a photo on Instagram of a plate of cookies that were decorated with peace signs, as well as the words “Peace at last.” The “Waking Up In Vegas” singer didn’t play coy about whom the message was directed towards, writing, “feels good @taylorswift” as the caption.
Judging by Swift’s unexpected sartorial choice, it looks like it’s still all love between the two pop stars.
