I like to call them my secret sweats.
I have a secret, but unlike most people, I’m about to share it. Actually, I’ve already shared it, but like most secrets, it deserves to be talked about—again. And there’s a timely peg to why I’m about to talk about it once more, too, so hear me out. No, the secret isn’t that [insert name is seeing someone again!] or [did you hear the news that…]; instead, my secret is a fashion one—in fact, it’s about an article of clothing that is a secret in and of itself.
Said secret? My go-to pants that look like trousers but feel like sweats. I’m propelled to write about them again because the brand behind said bottoms, Spanx, is having a massive end-of-season sale that includes—wait for it—these pants at the lowest price I’ve ever seen. So, yeah, before you ask: I will be stocking up on the $44 version in a fall-perfect red hue that’s about to be the pillar of my autumn wardrobe, but also the trendy ponte-flare that’s also marked down right now.

Here’s the 411 on my favorite fashion secret: As I said, the famous Spanx pants, which Oprah also once called her favorite because they’re just so good, are made from a high-quality ponte fabric that looks so luxe and high-end but feels so comfy thanks to the material’s four-way stretch. They’re also subtly compressive, making them ultra-flattering, with sewn-in butt-lifting magic that gives your booty a nice boost. When I say my butt looks its best ever in these pants, I mean it.
SPANXsmooth™ PerfectFit Ponte Kick-Flare Pant
Orig. $148 $44 at Spanx
These $44 PerfectFit pants, which have been renamed from the OG Perfect Pants, are obviously flattering and comfy thanks to the game-changing ponte material, but there are several other details worthy of mentioning, too. They have an easy pull-on design with no buttons or zippers involved, which means you don’t have any annoying metals poking or prodding against your skin throughout the day. A win—and another reason they have the ease of wear of comfy, elastic sweatpants.
They’re also machine washable, so you don’t have to bring them to the dry cleaners, and they wash well. I’ve had mine for years now, and they’ve definitely gone through it all, and TBH, they still look as good as new. One word of advice, though: There aren’t any pockets, which keeps the silhouette streamlined, but this also means wearing them might take some getting used to if you tend to carry things in your pockets versus your purse (I don’t, as I prefer to have all my essentials in my handbag).
So, if you’re curious to see why I’ve relied on these Spanx pants for years—and call them my no. 1 best-kept fashion secret— shop them while they’re 70 percent off during the brand’s end-of-season sale. Then, shop some more closet staples below.
