"Isn't it crazy? I love it."
Barbiamania may be so last year, but Shania Twain is only just entering her Barbie girl era.
Appearing on the red carpet at last night’s People’s Choice Country Awards at The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, Twain wore a wild outfit that made her look like she had just followed Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling straight out of Barbie world. Her unusual maxi mermaid gown was made entirely out of denim. The sleeveless dress featured a halter-style neckline and had an oversized collar. She also wore matching denim over-the-elbow gloves. Tiny sequins covered her chest, gloves, and skirt.
“Isn’t it crazy? I love it,” Twain told E! News of the gown, which was a collaboration with Levi’s. “I was involved with the sketches and the design and the silhouette and everything. To me, that’s the joy. It’s not about putting on something that’s amazing—it’s about being part of it.”
Twain completed her Barbie-esque transformation with a brand new ‘do, swapping out her signature honey blonde beachy waves for a sleek, 1960s-inspired bright blonde bob with flicked ends.
The awards show took to Instagram to share a carousel of images of the look, writing, “BA BA BABAAA BA BA BA. Let’s go @shaniatwain! ,” referencing the opening of her iconic song “Man! I Feel Like a Woman.”
As the host of the awards show, Twain made a number of appearances on stage throughout the evening, rocking several other retro-inspired looks, including a colorful '60s shift dress with knee-high white boots, an all-pink cowgirl look, and a glamorous red sparkly gown.
Prior to the event, Twain teased to People that she would be “bringing the glamour” as the host. “I’m busy getting excited about the glamour and presenting country music the way I like to present it, which is with great fashion and excitement and put on a really great show,” she said. “I really do love the fashion, and I’m excited to see what everybody’s going to be wearing and enjoy the spectacle of it. I’m excited about being part of that as well, representing country music at its best.”
