Image: Valentino Beauty From a luxury dog perfume to a peptide serum inspired by neuromodulator injectables, meet the latest beauty and personal care innovations that have launched this month…
Keeping up to date on the latest new product development is essential for anyone who works in the fast-paced cosmetics industry. After all, innovation is the name of the game.
In our regular NPD updates series, we share some of the most disruptive launches to help you stay one step ahead on current trends and innovations in the market.
D&G dog perfume
Dolce & Gabbana’s new perfume for dogs was supposedly inspired by Domenico Dolce’s unconditional love for his furry pal, Fefé.
The alcohol-free scent mist blends Ylang Ylang, Musk, and Sandalwood for a delicate yet warm fragrance that’s priced at €99.
The luxury dog perfume is housed in a glass bottle that features a 24-carat gold-plated paw. Customers are also treated to an exclusive Dolce & Gabbana dog collar with a tag when they buy the scent.
However, the launch has been criticised by vets and animal charities on the basis that it could be problematic for our four-legged friends, who rely on their sense of smell to function.
Valentino Spike Lipstick
Valentino Beauty’s new matte lipstick collection, Spike Valentino Buttery Matte Lip Colour, comes in a selection of 12 mood-boosting nude shades.
The formula is designed to be highly sensorial and has a 12% pigment concentration in a translucent base for extra vibrancy. It also includes special technology to give a matte colour with a light-reflective result.
It’s housed in a unique spikey packaging that draws inspiration from the iconic Valentino Garavani Studded Spike Bag.
Dyson Airwrap i.d.multi-styler/dryer & Chitosan, Post-Style Serum and Pre-Style Cream
Dyson has launched a new heated hair styling tool and wet styling product range that’s designed to be used with its heated tools.
The Airwrap i.d.multi-styler and dryer integrates Bluetooth technology to create a personalised curling sequence, which is based on user profile data such as hair type, length, and skill level.
It comes in two options: one for Curly to Coily Hair and one for Straight to Wavy Hair, with a choice of three new attachments: the Conical Barrel for tighter, defined curls; the Wave+Curl Diffuser for improved natural curl patterns; and the Blade Concentrator for a smoother finish.
Its new wet-use product range, Chitosan, features a Post-Style Serum and a Pre-Style Cream, which the brand has said are “engineered with Dyson Triodetic™ technology” for flexible, all-day hold with natural movement and shine.
The formulations feature chitosan, which Dyson calls “a complex macromolecule derived from oyster mushrooms.”
Miller Harris Bath & Body Collection
Miller Harris has redesigned its Bath & Body Collection using its most renowned scents to make it even more sustainable.
All formulas are vegan, paraben- and SLS-free and housed in recyclable 100% PCR plastic bottles (replacing glass).
The fragrance brand has also minimised its packaging sizes and switched to recyclable caps and pumps.
Weleda Men’s range
The natural cosmetics brand has launched a range especially for men, made with 100%-natural origin formulas that are free from synthetic fragrances, preservatives, parabens and petroleum derivatives.
The lineup includes: a 2-in-1 Face Wash for Men; 5-in-1 Multi-Action Serum; Moisture Cream for Men; Shaving Cream for Men; and After Shave Balm for Men.
All products have been created for use on any skin type – including sensitive skin and anyone prone to allergies or dermatitis.
Loving Tan, Deluxe Gradual Tan
The lightweight lotion is designed to enhance or extend a ‘mousse-made’ tan for up to two weeks, or it can be used on its own to build the perfect shade.
The nourishing formula contains antioxidants Acai Berry and Coffee Extract. It’s also infused with a hydrating shea butter to leave skin soft, smooth and supple.
SkinCeuticals P-TIOX
This peptide serum, inspired by neuromodulator injectables, was designed to reduce and prevent expression wrinkles and enhance skin radiance.
It has been specially created to complement use of cosmetic injectables. It intensely moisturises skin for 24 hours, and strengthens the skin barrier after just one hour.
According to the brand “P-TIOX is a peptide anti-wrinkle serum formulated with an Advanced Peptide Complex and amplified by potent actives including PHA, Niacinamide and Laminaria extract to create a more powerful synergy compared to peptide-based formulas alone.”
SkinCeuticals also said that that serum has been clinically tested and is proven on all skin tones to reduce the appearance of nine types of expressional wrinkles by up to 68%, while simultaneously improving texture and skin radiance in just one week.
Elemental Herbology Pause & Renew Gel Mask
Spa brand Elemental Herbology has launched its new Pause & Renew Gel Mask to help reverse symptoms of perimenopausal and menopausal skin.
The formulation is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and combines a powerful blend of adaptogens, vitamins and antioxidants including Ashwagandha, Red Clover, and Niacinamide to deliver intense hydration and boost collagen production to help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Michel Germain Parfums x Paramount Consumer Products Emily in Paris scent range
This collaboration lineup of five scents was created by renowned perfumer Michel Germain as an homage to the much-loved TV show, Emily in Paris.
Fans will be able to treat themselves to an original Emily in Paris scent, or choose from Je t’aime, Heartfelt, Romantic or even Pour Homme: a scent for male fans of the show.
British Skin Foundation x Face the Future tote bag
As part of a year-long partnership with British Skin Foundation, UK-based e-tailer Face the Future has launched a Canvas Tote Bag, priced at £12, with all proceeds from the sale going towards the skin charity.
