Katie Holmes walking around New York City this weekend with a big hobo bag in arm, chatting on her cell phone with a huge grin on her face is a Labor Day weekend vibe if I ever did see one. While I wasn’t in the city, I was prancing around hiking trails in Connecticut with an equally-big smile on my face, because, ahhh, fresh air and easygoing vibes. But unlike Holmes, who wore secretly comfy pants I’ll get to in a second, I was in skin-tight leggings that were more appropriate for the woods. However, had I seen her chic and comfy bottoms before I left NYC, I would’ve certainly spent the three-day weekend in them.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but it bears repeating—Holmes has a track record of piecing together the simplest of outfits that still manage to look cool and stylish every single time. So whoever said that putting together a no-fuss look doesn’t take skill, I beg to differ; there are simple outfits that just look boring and then there are simple outfits that have that inherent something-something to them. Holmes’s latest look has that something-something.
The actress opted for three key staples everyone should have on hand, including an oversized cardigan that she wore buttoned-up and tucked in, a graphic T-shirt that subtly poked out from underneath her layering piece, and last but certainly not least, elastic-waist silk lounge pants that are secret sweats.

Holmes’s silk pants are easy, breezy, and comfy. But, first and foremost, the luxe material looks fancy and expensive, making them ideal to wear in the “real world” or for any moments when you need to look a bit more put together. However, they’re also super comfy thanks to the buttery-soft silk that’s lightweight against the skin, making them nearly as snuggly (if not more!) than traditional sweatpants that can oftentimes look frumpy. Hey, there’s a time and place for both styles, but for now, I’m keen on Holmes’s silk drawstring version for fall 2024.
She wore hers with velvet Mary Janes, but I plan on styling my new pair (I’m between this Reformation style and this Babaton option) with everything from sneakers to heels to boots. Good thing any and all footwear options work!
