It’s perfect for travel, too.
Long, long ago, I was that person who declared spring to be my least favorite season. Now, ironically, I can’t recall a time that I’ve ever wanted a season to come faster. Although I’m a winter baby, there’s only so many 5 p.m. sunsets a girl can take.
As if I wasn’t excited enough, last week, I saw a photo of Martha Stewart that was so spring-ready, it made me want to develop a green thumb. In the most on-brand setting possible, Stewart was surrounded by leafy plants, wielding a gardening tool, and clutching one of her many books. The media mogul wore denim overalls, sneakers, and most enviably, a light collared shacket. While I loved her whole look (and can only aspire to this sort of farm-to-table lifestyle), I was particularly enamored with her outerwear choice, which served as a needed reminder that I won’t be wearing puffers forever.
Inspired by Stewart’s greenhouse-chic ensemble, I went in search of similar lightweight jackets. On my hunt, I found denim jackets, work coats, and shackets that are similar to the star’s version. Below, shop my top picks and start doing some spring fantasizing of your own.

Although there is absolutely no harvesting of any kind happening in my future, I can attempt to at least look the part with utility styles like this oversized army green jacket. The lightweight pick, a close lookalike for Stewart’s, is made of breathable cotton fabric, includes several patch pockets, and features a relaxed, comfortable fit. An effortless transitional piece, the jacket would look just as great thrown over cashmere sweaters as it would over T-shirts and tanks. If denim jackets are more your speed, however, instead opt for this highly-rated Wrangler style, which, unlike other denim picks, shoppers say is “soft and stretchy” and “not constricting at all.”

While collared jackets are a relatively simple style, that doesn’t mean they can’t be statement pieces in their own right. This distressed overshirt, for example, features frayed detailing throughout, giving it a lived-in vibe that feels very vintage. Not to mention, it’s only $43 and comes in 23 colors. Another textured pick, this cropped corduroy jacket would also make for a standout wardrobe addition. It’s made from a super soft material with tortoise buttons, and it’s available in other earth tones like chocolate brown and light apricot.
While I can wax poetic about my favorite coats all day long, Stewart’s look already has my mind on warm weather ‘fits. And, although her jacket is perfect for spring, it can totally work for late winter, too. Simply throw your outer layer over a crewneck pullover, add on a pair of jeans and a scarf, and you can slowly ease yourself into the next season of dressing. I also happen to think this an ideal style to bring on trips, considering it gives just enough warmth for chilly airplane rides.
