But it does add a little spice to your typical cocktail look.
There’s no better person to celebrate the return of a fashion icon than Katie Holmes. The actress, director, and mother was on hand to celebrate the return of Barneys New York, which is teaming up with beauty brand Hourglass for a temporary concept store in the Big Apple. Holmes, who has become synonymous with NYC style thanks to her laid-back ‘fits and masterful balance of super-luxe pieces with more affordable picks (think cashmere sets and plain white sneakers), stepped out in a strapless black dress with a drop waist, a polarizing detail that fashion fans either love or hate.
While the dress looked simple and sleek, it included thoughtful details like a sculptural, pleated panel at the bust and a full, A-line skirt that fell to Holmes's calves. She paired the dress with low black slingbacks and kept her jewelry minimal, skipping out on necklaces and bracelets and just opting for her signature nosering and tiny hoop earrings.
Carisa Janes, founder and president of Hourglass, told Vogue that resurrecting Barneys to celebrate her brand’s 20th anniversary was an exciting prospect.
“For our 20th anniversary, we wanted to go back to where it began for Hourglass, Barneys New York. Tonight’s launch event captures the magic of Barneys, an interactive celebration of discovery and creativity,” Janes said. “With the launch of Hourglass and Barneys limited-time concept store, we celebrate the spirit of Barneys by supporting the beauty and fashion talent of tomorrow through this unique experience, layered with our partnership with the CFDA.”
In addition to Hourglass, the pop-up shop has racks of Thom Browne, Marc Jacobs, Khaite, KidSuper, Proenza Schouler, and Luar goods. The store is set to be open from September 5–October 11.
Back on August 26, in another throwback moment, Holmes reunited with the cast of her film Pieces of April. She and co-stars Patricia Clarkson and Derek Luke discussed the film with director Peter Hedges more than two decades after its 2003 release.
“What a thrill to watch this film again at the Paris theater with #patriciaclarkson and @derekluke. And our incredible filmmaker #peterhedges,” she wrote alongside a group photo posted on Instagram. “So many beautiful memories making this film and a new one made tonight.”
