And now we can't unsee it.
Bathrobes worn as coats and gowns are a now thing—thanks to celebrities like Rihanna and Angelina Jolie, but dresses that look like bath rugs? Well, that’s a whole different animal.
On Sunday, Kate Hudson attended the American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special in Los Angeles wearing a fuzzy sage green gown from Fendi Couture’s fall 2023 collection that featured a halter neckline and a mermaid-style silhouette. And while some viewed Hudson’s dress as a cozy take on red carpet dressing, others couldn’t shake image of a shaggy bathroom carpet.
Critics shared their opinions on X, with one writing: "Kate Hudson's dress looks like it was sewn from bathroom rugs." Another added, "Why does Kate Hudson look like she’s wearing my granny’s old bathroom rug set?" A third commented, "Kate Hudson's dress looks like a bathroom rug a little but I kinda like it."
Looking chic nonetheless, Hudson accessorized with tiny diamond hoops, a gold David Yurman cuff bracelet, and a pair of open-toe heels. She painted her nails black and wore her blonde hair slicked back in wet waves.
This year, the AMAs did things a little differently and broadcast its anniversary special celebrating the award show's history with archival footage and award and performance milestones. The televised event also featured new performances from Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, and Kane Brown, as well as heartfelt interviews from legendary artists—including Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood, and Chaka Khan.
