The look came courtesy of Mango.
Queen Letizia may be Spain’s most prominent royal, but she loves to recycle her favorite looks just as much as the next person. Case in point? Her Kate Middleton-coded gray suit, which she donned for the 17th annual International Seminar on Language and Journalism. Letizia also wore the look in October for an event in Madrid on World Mental Health Day.
The gray suit featured a double-breasted jacket and matching wide leg trousers, for an elegant twist on menswear that recalled Middleton’s own pantsuit that she (re)wore back in October. In Middleton’s case, her look came courtesy of designer Roland Mouret, but in Letizia’s, a favorite Spanish mall brand took the credit: none other than Mango.
For her part, Middleton has long been a fan of the classic suit, and often wears one when enlisted to appear at royal events. Most recently, that included a surprise appearance at an investiture at Windsor, during which the Prince and Princess of Wales both met with Liz Hatton, a 16-year-old photographer and cancer patient.
In the case of both royals, each opted for simple accessories and sensible shoes so as not to distract from the quiet power of the pantsuit, which lends itself well to formal, serious engagements.
And as for Letizia’s look? It’s merely the latest in a steady stream of sartorial statements. Consider her penchant for the platform loafer or the petite slingback heel; all other details aside, this is a woman who knows how to dress, no matter the occasion.
