'The Penguin' star's custom Rodarte number left us breathless.
Awards season 2025 kicked off with a stylish bang with the 82nd annual Golden Globes, also known as “Hollywood’s Party of the Year,” which gathered the industry’s biggest names in film and television at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday, Jan 5. One of the shows that garnered plenty of buzz was HBO Max’s The Penguin, which delves into the meteoric rise of the titular DC character from a disregarded nobody to the head gangster of Gotham City.
Despite some audiences complaining about superhero fatigue in entertainment, The Penguin sets itself apart with its harsh realism and captivating cast. Viewers and critics alike were so enraptured by the show's leads that Colin Farrell, who plays the Penguin, and his onscreen counterpart and foe, Cristin Milioti, each earned acting nominations for their electrifying performances.
Milioti matched her co-star’s black and white Dolce & Gabbana tux, channeling sophisticated gothic glamour in a custom-made black velvet Rodarte dress. “Cristin and I have so much fun collaborating,” her stylist, Bailey Moon, tells InStyle. “We were both eager to work with Rodarte on something special, and the Golden Globes was the perfect opportunity. [Rodarte co-founders] Kate and Laura [Mulleavy] came up with this sleek velvet corseted gown that had beautiful trim mimicking shards of glass.”
Milioti’s look was accessorized with matching opera gloves (the accessory trend of the night, if you ask us), blinding art-deco-inspired diamonds, onyx, and rock crystals, courtesy of Maison Boucheron jewelry. She completed it with a Tyler Ellis clutch and Stuart Weitzman platforms.
“It was important to us to pay homage to her character from the show while also keeping it modern and true to Cristin,” Moon says. Milioti’s glam was conjured up by the talents of hairstylist Clayton Hawkins and makeup artist Jen Tioseco, who gave the actress a gorgeously romantic look that let her natural beauty shine bright on the red carpet.
Ahead, the actress exclusively gives InStyle a behind-the-scenes look at how she got ready for the 2025 Golden Globes.

Bailey Moon, my incredible stylist, and I started working with them a few weeks ago on this dress and they could not have been more gracious and lovely and collaborative," Milioti says. "We wanted it to be a mix between older Hollywood classic glamour but with a slight nod to the danger of the show…They went above and beyond, I love this dress deeply."
