Even the most demure dresses can use a little bit of edge.
Saoirse Ronan has been booked and busy with two new films, The Outrun and Blitz, releasing within a month of each other. To fans’ (and fashion lovers’) delight, she has been out and about, turning each press engagement into an impromptu fashion show. The actress has been bringing out some sartorial heavy hitters, from a reflective neon-blue minidress that screams ’70s disco fun to a massive ocean-blue bubble dress that looks like it could lift her into the air like a parachute. Most recently, she championed the return of the punk grommet belt—and who are we to argue with the Hollywood star?
The accessory, which features rows of silver holes all the way around, are most associated with grunge rockers from the '80s and '90s like Joan Jett, and often paired with distressed jeans, oversize leather jackets, worn-in band T-shirts, and chunky platform boots. However, the Ladybird star isn't just bringing the belts back, she's imbuing fresh life into the edgy accent.
For her take, Ronan wore an elegant snow-white gown that featured a mock neck, figure-hugging silhouette, and floor-length hem. The most striking accent came via two built-in white belts with silver hardware crossing over one another. She let the accessory speak for itself, forgoing jewelry except for her wedding ring. She slicked her bronde hair back into a sleek bun and glammed up with minimal makeup, opting for a natural-pink lip and pearl-colored manicure.
The Little Women star has recently made a pattern of taking classic garments and giving them a quirky shakeup. Her itty-bitty bright blue dress, which she wore earlier this month to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, featured a printed pattern to make it appear like a cozy knit sweater. A painted-on ribbed hemline and huge kangaroo pocket brought some dynamism to the playful frock, which she paired with cool black shades and matching pointed-toe stilettos.
The same day, she leaned into the bubble trend, but, once again, made it her own with a voluminous deep-blue dress with one long sleeve. Sheer black tights, black heels, and diamond cuff earrings completed her 'fit.
