I couldn't help but wonder, is gray the new black?
After a rain-drenched weekend in New York City, I couldn’t help but wonder why is it that we love to wear all-black but think gray to be too gloomy? After all, the moody clouds and dark skies have served as great inspiration to artists and poets throughout the years, so why not our closets too? Then, on a Monday morning, she was waiting in my email inbox: Sarah Jessica Parker proving my theory right.
Over the weekend, the Sex and the City actress wore a dark gray Gucci double-breasted blazer paired with a similarly toned pencil skirt from the brand’s Cruise 2025 collection—reminiscent of Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic wedding skirt suit. Parker carried a Gucci Jackie bag in black leather and wore matching pumps that would undoubtedly get the seal of approval from her on-screen character. Even without any color pops happening in the look, it works, thanks to the rich textures (suede and leather together are a perfect match) and subtle accents throughout.

As the winter approaches, it’s natural to gravitate to darker colors. And if that’s your case, let SJP’s look push you to make your grays and blacks shine, whether that’s going for a monochromatic head-to-toe dark gray look or adding luxe leather details. It should also make the obvious more evident: a gray blazer is a must-have for stylish winter (if not year-round!) dressing, pairing well with tailored trousers for work or a sequined pencil skirt for a holiday party.
The options are endless when you let gray be more than just a gloomy color. Ahead, are some available pieces to inspire your gray-shaded journey.
