I'm already practicing my power pose.
Whether you’re running for office, have a board meeting at 3 p.m., or are delivering a big presentation, a well-tailored suit does wonders for exuding confidence. Don’t believe me? Look no further than Vice President Kamala Harris, who was a vision of self-assurance yesterday. In addition to delivering a master class in power suiting, she wore a sneaky detail that will have you (and me) re-thinking your entire fall wardrobe.
Kamala Harris's Power Suit Hack, Explained
The Democratic Nominee for President proved you don't need to wear an attention-grabbing color in order to be bold. In fact, she made a statement in a charcoal-gray suit via one small style hack: dramatic lapels. Harris's longline blazer, which she wore over a simple black long sleeve, featured peak lapels that sharply jutted out to the sides, creating a strong, structured silhouette.
She paired the jacket with matching, wide-leg pants, velvety black stiletto heels, and a patriotic silver American flag pin. The set delivered a clear message: she means business. She wore the ensemble while appearing on The View and The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
For a softer, feminine touch, she added two gold chain necklaces studded with pearls (her go-to), pearl stud earrings, and two dainty gold chain bracelets on each wrist. She went with her usual matte makeup, complete with black eyeliner, fluttery eyelashes, and a berry-pink lip, and styled her chestnut-colored bob in her usual soft waves with a side part.
The suit has become a signature of Harris's closet throughout her multi-decade career. Yet, each time she wears one, she makes it feel completely new by changing out an element. Last month, she imbued fresh life into a classic, inky black suit by pairing it with a crisp white T-shirt and some surprising footwear: black Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers. The unlikely pairing gave her suiting a casual feel while still remaining polished.
