Never underestimate the power of an all-white outfit.
Jennifer Lopez never misses an opportunity to teach a sartorial masterclass, and the Sundance Film Festival is no exception. Celebrating the premiere her new film, Kiss of the Spider Woman, the multi-hyphenate went from triumph to triumph: starting with an après-ski-coded winter whites ensemble and ending with a spiderweb gown that breathed new life into the well-worn trend that is method dressing.
As for the first look? The actor donned an ivory jumpsuit, a matching cropped puffer vest, coordinating white boots, and one slightly unexpected accessory: a brown leather belt bag.
The "Waiting For Tonight" singer wore the monochromatic ensemble for a day of interviews to promote the new film-slash-musical, which was adapted for the screen by Bill Condon. Lopez served as executive producer for the project and also stars in it as Ingrid Luna/Aurora, a spider woman whose kiss is (literally) deadly. It received a standing ovation following its premiere on Sunday night.
“I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life,” Lopez told the crowd, per Variety. “The reason I even wanted to be in this business is because my mom would sit me in front of the TV and [West Side Story] would come on once a year. I was mesmerized and was like, ‘That’s what I want to do.’ This is the first time I actually got to do it.”
After a career in Hollywood that spans more than three decades, Kiss of the Spider Woman is Lopez's first musical. She called the project a "labor of love."
“I never felt in my life that I was born to play a part ever. And I really felt that with this,” Lopez told the Los Angeles Times, per People. “Love is just love and people are just people. And for me, that resonated very deeply because of my own life and my own children. And so I really took to it so immediately and was so excited.”
Kiss of the Spider Woman is directed by Bill Condon and also stars Diego Luna, Tonatiuh, and Tony Dovolani alongside Lopez. Perhaps most notably, Lopez once again worked with her ex-husband, Ben Affleck, who produced the film with Matt Damon via their production company, Artists Equity.
