Comfort? Check. Style? Check.
I’m picky! I’m a snob! I’m not easy to please! All these phrases, which tend to have negative connotations, are ones that I now scream from the rooftops because, well, I don’t care. I think being particular—the nicest sounding word of all—is a good thing. You know what you like, and you don’t settle for anything less than that. The same can be said about a partner (I have the best!), a home (I love our Upper East Side apartment so much!), the food we eat, and more. But, this story is about shoes, and if you know me, you’re probably aware I’m shoe obsessed. I live and breathe footwear, and fall time is my favorite time because of one particular style: suede boots.
Forget motorcycle boots or combat options. Sure, those are cool and all, but I realize that I don’t wear these starker, edgier boots as much as I wear my soft, supple suede picks. And there’s a simple reason—suede boots are much more versatile in their look, meaning they pair well with everything and go with every vibe you’re looking to achieve. I’ve worn mine with everything from baggy jeans to pleated skirts to leather dresses, and every time, they just worked.
But, I’m certainly not going to buy any suede boots, either. In my years, I’ve tested probably close to 200 options, but I can officially say I found seven that pass all the tests. Most of the below I actually own, while the others are the ones I currently have in my cart.

Neil J. Rodgers Eva Slouch Boot
$995 at Neiljrodgers.com
Of course I’m biased because these shoes are basically named after me—just kidding, but not really. Aside from the great name, these slouch booties from Neil J. Rodgers have everything I love about a boot—a luxe suede exterior, the perfect silhouette, an easy-to-walk-in kitten heel, and a roomy shaft. The cherry on top? They’re made in Italy, and IYKYK. They’re pricey, but this is an investment piece that you’ll wear year after year. Bonus: They’re comfy right out of the box, and I can attest to that.
J.Crew New Stevie Ankle Boots
$248 $197 at Jcrew.com
I don’t yet own these J.Crew booties, but I will soon. They’re perfect in every way, from the delicious walnut brown hue to the ankle length that’s a bit higher than most traditional ankle boots. This means I can easily tuck in my cropped jeans, too, but the shaft isn’t too wide, so they’ll also seamlessly wear underneath wide-leg denim, as well. They’re also on sale, so I obviously have to get them.
Scarlett Chase Portia 75 Stretch Bootie
$695 at Scarlettchase.com
If you want a sexy suede boot that’s as comfy as a sneaker, look no further than this pair from Scarlett Chase. The stretch leather is out-of-this-world comfy, shaping to your foot (mine are on the wider side!), while the interior, designed with game-changing cushioning, will make you think you’re not wearing heels at all. The suede is also weatherproof, so you can technically get caught in a rainstorm wearing these without running them, though I’d always advise to still spray a suede protector just in case.
Thursday Boots Luna Boot
$180 at Thursdayboots.com
A simple, no-fuss suede boot that’s well designed and easy to wear? These Thursdays are it. If you know me, you’ll know I’m also a big fan of Thursday’s boots; I own the Heartbreak style as well as these chunky combat boots, but the next pair I’m making mine are these Luna boots. The wooden heel adds dimension, while the sand suede exterior is so stunning. Other notable features include the no-slip sole and the comfy, shock-absorbing insoles.
