She loves an unexpected twist.
Cate Blanchett can’t resist a quirky top. After wearing a halter made of silver spoons (which later got remixed into a blazer), a shirt that was crafted from hair extensions, and a seemingly tame chainmail crop top, she arrived at Louis Vuitton’s Paris Fashion Week presentation wearing a strong-shouldered white top that had a built-in scarf that featured long trails of fringe.
Blanchett joined A-listers like Zendaya and Alicia Vikander at the show, which featured a slew of runway looks that also had big, ’80s-inspired shoulders and more-is-more detailing, like long stacked statement necklaces with Vuitton’s signature fleur floral and quirky flat sandals. Blanchett paired her anything-but-basic top with shiny black patent leather trousers with a low-cut waistband that swept across her hips and included a big, statement-making leather bow. The Oscar-winning actress finished the look with pointy black pumps.
Blanchett recently spoke to WWD about her red carpet outfits, which often includes re-wearing her favorite pieces. She famously wore a vintage Armani look to the Cannes International Film Festival.
“We all do it in our everyday life, and it just seems crazy to me to not treasure these things that are so beautifully constructed,” she said. "Actually, it’s been such a relief. It’s been a much more creative way to think."
She also noted that her son, Ignatius, loves to borrow from her closet and is "really adamant" about wearing vintage pieces, which she can relate to.
"That’s what I learned from my mother," she explained. "I stole the bits from her wardrobe from the ’80s. Thank God, because if you keep it long enough, it comes back.”
