I’m holding space for Ariana Grande at the 2025 Golden Globes. The Wicked star, nominated tonight for her role as Glinda, floated down to the 2025 Golden Globes red carpet in a vintage butter-yellow gown that channeled Audrey Hepburn from her famous role of Ariane Chavasse from the 1957 film Love in the Afternoon.
Grande’s vintage 1966 Givenchy gown featured a strapless, babydoll silhouette and an ornate beaded top. The pop star and actress added white opera gloves as a nod to the legendary movie star, as well as Audrey-inspired micro bangs, a pony-tail updo, and a diamond choker. For glam, Grande opted for an ivory eyeshadow, a brown floating liner detail, and fringed lashes. She completed the look with Champagne-colored pointed-toe pumps.
While speaking with Variety on the carpet, the star said that the look was also inspired by her hit film, which is nominated four times at tonight’s show. “It’s yellow because follow the yellow brick road,” she said, per People. “And it’s one of Glinda’s favorite colors.”
"This is Givenchy 1966 archive," she added. "My stylist Mimi [Cuttrell] and I found it and we were so excited."
Grande was nominated in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture category, alongside fellow child star Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña, Isabella Rossellini, Margaret Qualley, and Felicity Jones; Saldaña took home the award. Grande’s Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo is also nominated at today’s ceremony for her portrayal of Elphaba, a.k.a. the Wicked Witch of the West.
During the movie’s popular press tour, Grande often paid homage to the storied character in pink looks, including a silk Louis Vuitton peplum gown, a blush-colored smocked Giambattista Valli piece, an iridescent Versace dress with a plunging neckline, a Glinda-coded Vivienne Westwood corset frock, and an adorable checkered Thom Browne midi dress and shrug. During the European premiere, Grande’s yellow tulle Ralph Lauren gown was a deep-cut Glinda reference from the Broadway musical. She added round, tinted sunglasses to complete the look.
Throughout the viral Wicked press tour—which has generated many meme-worthy moments—Grande and Erivo have become emotional during several interviews while opening up about their experience on set. During a recent interview with Variety, Grande clarified that the many tears are a result of their gratitude. “I feel so grateful and proud of how present we’ve been able to be,” she explained. “A lot of people have come up to us and been like, ‘How you holding up?’ with a long face. And we’ve just peeked at each other and been like, we’re grateful and floating.”
“The most special stuff is unseen,” she added. “We can giggle at it all we want because we’re quite funny. I’ve watched and had a giggle. But it is really a privilege to work and feel this way, not just as an actress in a movie but as a human being with other human beings who care—yes, about the work, but about each other.”
