She winterfied the summer staple.
It’s no secret that Angelina Jolie loves an all-black look. The star’s penchant for dark, monochromatic ensembles usually sees her reaching for little black dresses for glamorous events or her tried-and-true inky-black maxi coat for casual cold-weather strolls. For last night’s outing, she once again went the LBD route, although this time in a controversial gown that’s usually reserved for summer.
The Maria actress graced the red carpet at New York City’s Cipriani Wall Street for the 2024 Gotham Awards in a polarizing ensemble. Jolie donned a black maxi sack dress that featured a draping, slightly-sheer skirt, a high neckline, satin and velvet fabrics, and a divisive, voluminous silhouette. She paired the airy centerpiece with matching platform heels that featured a tall block heel, ankle straps, and an open-toe design. For accents, she added a wide gold bangle, dainty drop earrings, and an oversize black cape to brave the winter chill.
As for beauty, Jolie wore her luscious long blond hair down with a middle part and added glowy makeup, complete with dewy skin, black winged eyeliner, and a tinted lip.
The mom-of-six was fittingly dressed like a winner, as she was honored with the Performer Tribute for her performance in Maria, her new musical-drama that follows the life of famed opera singer Maria Callas.
While all-black has been Jolie’s consistent go-to outfit formula for years, she still manages to make it look so new. Last month, she stepped out at the 42nd Torino Film Festival in Italy looking like an office siren in a black V-neck sweater, tucked into a figure-hugging, dark-gray pencil skirt and paired with practical black ballet flats. She once again styled her golden tresses down and glammed up with a soft pink lip and a cat eye.
Before that, she enjoyed an evening out in New York in a glamorous black Grecian gown that featured ruching throughout, a cape detail, a floor-grazing skirt, thin straps, and a V-neckline. She threw a black velvet jacket with an abstract design over top, styled her hair in a classic half-up, half-down 'do, and glammed up with similar makeup.
