Brooke Shields is in her self-confidence era following the release of her most recent book, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Age: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman. In support of the book’s release, the actress appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and opted for a daring take on the LBD as her fashion choice for the night.
Shields wore an asymmetrical little black dress, which had a few fun and quirky elements to elevate its styling. The dress was made primarily of black velvet fabric and featured a boned bust that folded down into a black satin panel, but that wasn’t the most interesting part of her ensemble.
The right side of the dress features a slit that extends all the way up her right thigh and ends at the curvature of her hips. To add some coverage back to the look, the 59-year-old added a pair of sheer black tights and matching black heels, making it an equal parts sleek and sexy outfit for the late-night circuit.
During the interview portion of her time on the program, Shields revealed that she was inspired to write the book because of her own experiences with people limiting her possibilities due to her age.
"Starting a company in my 50s was such a shock to everybody that a 50+ woman could do something completely new, so I started writing about that process and put a lot of research into it… because this age is fabulous, but we're relegated to just menopause," Shields explained. "I say, you're either the hot girl at the bar, or you're in dentures or Depends. There's so much joy to be had, and I wanted to encourage women to not be scared about this era in their life. It's their turn!"
