Method dressing and it’s the same but it's with accessories so it’s not.
Ashley Park is method dressing again. Or is she? Does it count if it’s just one accessory? In her latest look, which she wore to a SAG-AFTRA Foundation event, the Emily in Paris star made a subtle nod to her pop singing character, Mindy, by carrying a silver sparkly purse shaped like a teeny tiny guitar.
The outfit itself was, quite frankly, a little confusing. It consisted of a black sheer corset top with round sparkly silver breastplates. Over this, she wore a super cropped black blazer with pointed shoulders—it was so short, it revealed the sparkly bra piece below. Her black pants featured sparkly stripes down the outside of each leg. She finished off the outfit with black pointed-toe heels, also covered in sparkles, a black leather headband, and sparkly silver jewelry.
The highlight of the ouftit was Park's purse: a tiny silver sparkly guitar on a silver chain, leaving Park looking as though she was ready to start performing alongside a miniature band at any moment.
Method dressing—ie. dressing in clothes that nod to the themes or characters of the project being promoted—has been a common theme of red carpets over the past few years. Margot Robbie made some clever references to iconic Barbie dolls while promoting Greta Gerwig’s film last year, while Zendaya and her stylist, Law Roach, experimented with tennis-inspired looks while she promoted Challengers this spring.
Now, it seems stars are getting even more creative with their sartorial allusions on the red carpet by using their accessories. Earlier this week, Kelsea Ballerini also hopped on the method accessorizing trend, carrying a bag shaped like a literal goldfish bowl while promoting her series Doctor Odyssey—because, you know, it’s set on a cruise ship.
