It only took 30 years to settle a longtime blue-and-black vs. white-and-gold dress-style debate tied to one of Rachel Green’s most iconic Friends looks. Jennifer Aniston finally set the record straight about Rachel’s famed mint green column dress.
Earlier this week, Max shared a side-by-side photo capturing Aniston as Rachel. The photo was taken from season 3, episode 2, "The One Where No One's Ready." In the photo, Rachel wears a green dress with a square neckline and a thigh-high slit. Due to discrepancies in film quality—the episode aired back in 1996, after all—the dress can appear to be different colors. In Max's post, the snap from the 4K quality shows the costume in a robin's egg blue shade, whereas in HD (high-definition), the dress is a pale green color.
It seems that the high-definition version most accurately depicts the color, because Aniston reposted the Instagram to her Story, writing, "For the record, the dress was mint green." She also included one fan's comment that cleverly wrote, "Rachel not so Green," as a play on the character's last name.
Over the series’s 10 seasons, Aniston’s character became known for her fashion-forward ’90s style, from her tiny tank tops and plaid skirts to overalls. Even her Friends haircut, better know as “The Rachel,” became iconic and a go-to photo for women at the hairdresser.
Earlier this year, Aniston reflected on the beginning of Friends for People‘s 50th anniversary issue.
"Oh, everything was the most exciting thing on the planet," she said. "It was just magic. Nothing was not exciting. And it’s still exciting, but we’ve had more experiences. We’ve learned more lessons. There’s a little more behind us."
She also got candid about the pressure that comes with being a style icon. When asked if she still gets nervous at an event, she answered, "Always. Always. Right now, literally in this chair."
